We are Grass Roots

It is a grassroots site for grassroots groups. Our mission is to promote the Occupy Wall Street values of transparency and horizontal communication and to support the political revolution with the technology we build.

Our Platform

This site is part of a multisite platform. We will will add multiple sites to this platform over time and your new site could be one of them. All the sites share a common social network. Register for any site within the platform and you are automatically a member of the social network.

Groups

The social network consists of members and of groups. Members can join groups and request new groups. Within a group members can stay updated about what is happening by looking at the activity stream and by posting their own updates. They can discuss topics of their choice by going to the groups forum. A “Documents” section allows them to upload and share files. A group can even have it’s own publicly viewable blog.

We have three different types of groups. Public groups that anyone can join, private groups that only invited members can join and whose content is protected, and hidden groups that are invisible to non-members. To request a group click on “Contact” in the menu or click here.

Members

Members have profiles. Information added to profiles can be public or private, the choice is yours. We recommend that you make your information public as the site is designed for open communication and networking.

In addition members can post in their own activity stream, they can public and private message each other and invite each other to join their groups.

Email Updates

Groups will automatically send you updates of what is going on in the group. The frequency of these updates is set by the group administrator. We recommend however, that you fine tune this setting according to what is best for you. You will see the option in the header of each group.

Help

As you will see, we have added a lot of functionality to our platform. See our FAQ page for common questions.

For other questions, please click the green Help button located in the lower left of each page. Send us a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Why Were Bernie Sanders Groups Removed From Facebook?

Stephanie Dube Dwilson wrote in Heavy.com that:

“Numerous popular Bernie Sanders Facebook groups and pages were removed from the social media giant on Monday, causing hundreds of thousands of members to wonder exactly what was happening. The removals all began happening around the same time, with people wondering if the removals might originate from a PAC that supports a rival campaign or if it was just the work of unrelated trolls. What happened?”

A long list of links to events from July 23rd – 28th and resources for outside the DNC in Philadelphia, from communications mobile apps to how to prepare for tear gas.

This Facebook page has a long list of links to events from July 23rd – 28th and resources for those outside the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

The People’s Convention

The People’s Convention in Philadelphia, a grassroots attempt to reclaim our democracy by uniting behind a common policy framework, rather than a personality or party.

In July, The People’s Revolution will convene The People’s Convention in Philadelphia, a grassroots attempt to reclaim our democracy by uniting behind a common policy framework, rather than a personality or party. Leading up to our first People’s Convention this summer, grassroots organizers from around the country will work together to formulate a People’s Platform: a unifying set of ideas, beliefs, and values that will help define the movement.

Hillary Should Apologize for Her Violent Supporters

a male Hillary supporter hit a female, At-Large, Bernie delegate, Moumita Ahmed, with a CANE – TWICE- as she walked up to second the motion

At the Nevada State Convention, no violence was ever documented, yet the mass media spent over a week demanding that Bernie Sanders apologize for violence that never actually happened. On June 21, 2016, I was present at the New York State Democratic Party Delegation Meeting to prepare for Philadelphia. Disorder broke out when the chair failed to follow Roberts Rules of Order. There’s a reason why they are called rules of order!

Democracy Ignored by Hillary Supporters as We Are Asked to Unite

If Bernie supporters are being asked to hold their nose and pull the lever for Hillary in November, one would expect an attempt by the Democratic PArty leadership in New York to at least offer the pretense of democratic process by following Roberts Rules of Order and allowing Delegates to make a motion at a meeting.

There was a clear decision to avoid following Roberts Rules of Order by the State Democratic Party leadership. Meeting chair, Michael Reich, clearly heard the dozens of delegates motioning to nominate another chair of the NY delegation to the Philadelphia National Convention. But he ignored the motions and pushed the agenda forward electing Gov. Cuomo. In case he – by chance – didn’t hear us motion, Nomiki Konst walked to the microphone to call for the motion. He continued to object and they cut Nomiki’s mic. Then, to make matters worse, a male Hillary supporter hit a female, At-Large, Bernie delegate, Moumita Ahmed, with a CANE – TWICE- as she walked up to second the motion. Political Revolution 2.0, What’s Next?

How do we pivot now, at the convention in Philadelphia and what we do locally? Our challenge is to remain connected, so we can coordinate.

There’s lots of discussion in the mass and alternative media about what is next for Bernie Sanders supporters. Luckily we have both time and space to think critically and collaborate to propose solutions. Our mission remains the same, but many are discussing how we pivot now, at the convention in Philadelphia and what we do locally. Our challenge is to remain connected, so we can coordinate.

Remember, we are standing up, #MakingDemocracy and we won’t give up the fight against Oligarchy.

Participate and Plan

At 11am on June 11, 2016 supporters in NYC will be meeting at Loft 142 to discuss Continuing the Political Revolution.

Hillary and Bernie NY Delegates to the National Convention in Philadelphia have a meeting on June 21, 2016. Bernie supporters have a public Wiki here to plan.

Many are going to Chicago for The People’s Summit, June 17 – 19. Let’s encourage Charles and other organizers to offer “unconference” types of sessions so we can all have a voice.

The People’s Convention is taking place in Philadelphia on July 23, 2016 and The People’s Revolution is organizing lots of people to plan for this prelude to the Democratic Party National Convention.

Finally, we’re beginning to get news of plans for the official convention in Philadelphia, July 25 – 28, 2016. the Democratic National Committee recently agreed to give Sanders six spots on the 15-member Platform Committee, a move intended to help heal any wounds remaining from the primary fight.

GroupsForBernie is Continuing and Growing

We started mostly with people we met in person around NYC. We’re talking with lots of other teams and about we grow as a single network. Our Platform enables teams to control their own content inside a Group, within the GroupsForBernie.org primary site. Your team can also administer your own subsite at yourname.GroupsForBernie.org with the option of Domain Mapping from yourname.org to yourname.GroupsForBernie.org so your user just enter yourname.org to get to your site, but we’re all connected in one large social network that fosters transparency and horizontal communication.

SuperDelegate Challenge Initiative for the DNC

This initiative would diminish the worth of super delegate votes to reflect the popular vote in the state that those delegates represent.

Published in YouTube on Jun 7, 2016

Shyla Nelson explains to TYT’s Eric Byler the strategy behind The Superdelegate Challenge Initiative, a grassroots effort that originated among voters in various states who are Bernie Sanders supporters to address the issue of Superdelegate votes warping the numbers for convention delegates coming from a given state, and undermining the will of the people.

The remedy sought by the coalition is to diminish the worth of super delegate votes to reflect the popular vote in the state that those delegates represent. For instance, super delegates who have promised to vote for Hillary Clinton would have a 1/2 or 1/4 vote, instead of a full vote, if they represent a state that voted or caucused for Bernie Sanders. The same would apply in reverse.

Leaders at the Democratic National Committee will be reviewing the proposal, which Nelson says lead to a more “small D” democratic process that would have a much better chance at enlisting independents and young voters into the Democratic Party.

SUPERDELEGATE CHALLENGE INITIATIVE

Today in Utah, the first of what will be MANY formal Credentials Challenges was filed against the Superdelegate class in that state. The challenge, formally submitted to the Democratic National Committee’s standing Credentials Committee, the Utah Democratic Party, and all Superdelegates in that state, marks the “birth” of the Superdelegate Challenge Initiative. We stand in support of the People’s candidate for President of the United States,U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders.

Working within the structure of the DNC’s own charter and bylaws, and with historic precedents as the basis, our team of election law experts, attorneys, and community organizers is preparing state-by-state challenges to address the power overreach of the Superdelegate class, seeking as remedy the proportional representation as determined by the popular vote results in a given state.

It is our intention that this process provide an elegant, non-acrimonious, peaceful “win-win” remedy to the fullest extent possible, while upholding the purest form of democracy – the will of the people – as sovereign above all.

Here’s what happens next: the Credentials Committee, by protocol, will send the challenge back to the state party leadership for resolution, with possible recommendadtions for remedy. If they so choose, the Credentials Committee has the authority to drop the “weight” of the Superdelegate vote to 1/2 or even 1/4 to ensure that the sovereignty of the popular vote is maintained.

Utah formally filed today. New York will be next, and others (WA, AK, OH, KY, TN, NJ, PA, GA, and many others) are in the works.

This is lower case “d” democracy in action – working to restore the principle of “one person – one vote” to the “Party of the People.”
The story of this primary season is far from over. We are just getting warmed up. Please LIKE our page (tagged above) and invite all of your friends to do so as well. We will be posting updates there and elsewhere in the days ahead.

We appreciate your help in getting the word out. Much more to come.

Sending all strength to each and every one of you who are working tirelessly to save our democracy.

Ever onward,
Shyla Nelson for the SCI team

Was Election Justice USA Censored by Facebook?

Stephanie Dube Dwilson wrote in Heavy.com that:

Election Justice USA is the group leading a lawsuit in New York on behalf of registered Democrats who had to vote provisional because their voter registration was purged or changed. Their Facebook page mysteriously disappeared for most of Thursday before Facebook reinstated it around 2 a.m. Eastern. But then, around 3 a.m. Eastern, the site was removed again. What’s happening? Why was the page censored?
